Enrichment: Rice and Beans Class

For Enrichment tonight, Suzi Brewster, Our Stake Food Storage Specialist, taught us about Rice and Beans. We tasted Brownies made from a boxed cake mix, chocolate chips, and a can of pureed black beans (including liquid). We also had lemon Rice, Rice-A-Roni, Bean Dip, Frito Bean Salad, Really Good Pinto Bean Pie, Egg Foo Yung, Spicy Garbanzo Bean Crunchies, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Bean Burgers and Jessica Seinfeld's Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Donna Stockebrand also made us a yummy Persian Lentil and Rice Soup! Called AASH in Persia. Suzi taught us that cooking with Rice and Beans doesn't have to be intimidating. We discussed bean nutrition, cooking and soaking and Rice history, facts, tips, types and nutrition. As usual, Suzi outdid herself and did a wonderful job! Thanks to Donna, Cara and Suzi for all their help and hard work! Thanks also to Nicol and Amber for being willing to work in our Nursery.

Please get them to a member of the Relief Society Presidency. You can e-mail them to dmaakar@yahoo.com. Also, if you have shared a recipe for a Relief Society Activity, Newsletter or something else and would prefer not to have it included, please contact Marilyn. Thank you.

Mormon Message

Bishop Bybee mentioned that he was touched and enlightened as he watched the most recent "Mormon Message" on the Church's website. It is titled "My new Life". It made a strong impact on him and he felt impressed that the sisters in our ward should view this clip during this Mother's Day season. He would like each of us to view this message during the next couple of days. It takes about 8 minutes.

Single Mothers Seminar

Dear Relief Society Presidents,

The LDS Employment Centers are pleased to announce a Single Mothers Seminar, on Tuesday, March 23rd 2010. It will be from 5:50 to 8:30 pm at the Miller Conference Center. Please see the attached flyer for all of the information, address, etc.

I attended an information meeting about this seminar and believe it would be beneficial to any sisters in our area who are unemployed, or under employed. They are joining with a non-profit organization called "People Helping People" to help sisters become self sufficient. Please encourage anyone in your area to attend. All are welcome. They will have information and also a great motivational speaker.

It should be very beneficial to all who attend.

Spa & Pampering Night

Thanks to everyone who came and helped make this night a success!
We had a slow start all the way around but once we started, we had lots of things to keep us busy!

We used a salt scrub on our hands, rinsed it off, added lotion and dipped them in parafin wax. Then we covered them in plastic and wrapped them in towels to keep them warm. Afterwards, we peeled off the parafin then rubbed in a bit more lotion were able to polish our nails!

(Salt Scrub: Pour a bit of course salt into a container. Then use a carrier oil - avocado, jojoba, almond, grapeseed, or olive oil and pour in just enough to cover the salt.)

Then while we waited, we soaked our feet!

We also did Pillow Sprays where we filled the spray bottle most of the way with distilled water and added 25-35 drops of essential oils depending on which spray bottle we ended up with!

And finished up with Bath Salts which were 1 cup epsom salt, 2 cups dead sea salts, 1/2 cup baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon glycerine, 1 Tablespoon grapeseed oil, 10 drops essentail oils until the salt was coated and didn't look wet or feel overly moist. Then we added 1/2 cup citric acid. The first batch didn't turn out as well but.... I think everyone had a bunch to take home!

Thanks to Marisa for sharing her parafin bath with us and Donna for the wonderful music! Also to our nursery helpers and everyone who brought us treats!!!
Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and went home feeling a bit more pampered and relaxed!
