2011 Book of Mormon Challenge
We have been challenged to read three pages each day from the Book of Mormon with our spouse and Mark the verses where the Savior is referenced. Our Young Men and Young Women have also been given a challenge. This is the Schedule we were given:
December Craft Activity
We did a Tile Nativity picture for our December Activity. Here are a few pictures from the night!
We wiped off our tiles to make sure they were dust free
Positioned the picture
Pulled the white backing sheet off the picture and made sure it was still positioned correctly
Rub the picture down firmly with a scraper (like the Pampered Chef Brown Scrapers or a credit card)
Peel the clear sticker off slowly (If the black comes up, press it back down and rub some more.)

Visiting Teaching Conference
We are all daughters of God.
Heavenly Father wants us to watch out for each other. That is why we have the program of Visiting Teaching.
A Tribute
I'm just a visiting teacher, I heard a sister say,
But Oh how golden was the key that she had used today.
It had opened doors of comfort and doors of hopefulness,
For lonely hearts and troubled minds and brought them happiness.
A sweetly-worded message that she had humbly left inside,
And every home she visited seemed sweetly purified.
No Idle words of gossip, no ugly thought was left to scar.
No wonder God was pleased as he watched her from afar.
So she is "just a visiting teacher," how little does she know
How valuable, how welcome, her monthly visits grow!
As she turns the key of service that fits in every lock,
Of every precious sister whom she visits on her block.

Stake Treats from the General Relief Society Broadcast
I hope all of you took the opportunity to listen to the Relief Society Broadcast last weekend! There were some wonderful talks and we definately came away spiritually fed! For those of you who were unable to listen, it is now posted at http://lds.org/broadcast/grsm/0,6220,285,00.html. For those of you who came to the Stake Center, these are the recipes for the wonderful Trifles that we had after the broadcast.
Together - We Can Accomplish Anything
As covenant women, we come from all walks of life, all ages, marital statuses, incomes, education levels, race and ethnic backgrounds - but together, we speak the same simple testimony, we comfort each other and sustain each other in our mutual faith. Our testimony of Jesus Christ crosses all boundaries - political, racial, economic, national. We are the same, as covenant daughters of God. That doesn't mean we are the same in all of our life decisions, or even in how we live the principles of the gospel.
The world wants to believe that we can never be perfect.
Perfectly joined together, we are unstopable.
Individually, we all have different talents and strengths, but together - we can accomplish anything the Lord needs us to do.

Enrichment: Rice and Beans Class
For Enrichment tonight, Suzi Brewster, Our Stake Food Storage Specialist, taught us about Rice and Beans. We tasted Brownies made from a boxed cake mix, chocolate chips, and a can of pureed black beans (including liquid). We also had lemon Rice, Rice-A-Roni, Bean Dip, Frito Bean Salad, Really Good Pinto Bean Pie, Egg Foo Yung, Spicy Garbanzo Bean Crunchies, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Bean Burgers and Jessica Seinfeld's Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Donna Stockebrand also made us a yummy Persian Lentil and Rice Soup! Called AASH in Persia. Suzi taught us that cooking with Rice and Beans doesn't have to be intimidating. We discussed bean nutrition, cooking and soaking and Rice history, facts, tips, types and nutrition. As usual, Suzi outdid herself and did a wonderful job! Thanks to Donna, Cara and Suzi for all their help and hard work! Thanks also to Nicol and Amber for being willing to work in our Nursery.

Sisters,
We want to compile a Ward Cookbook this fall, in time for the holidays. We would like to include 2-3 recipes from each house within the ward. Please get them to a member of the Relief Society Presidency. You can e-mail them to dmaakar@yahoo.com. Also, if you have shared a recipe for a Relief Society Activity, Newsletter or something else and would prefer not to have it included, please contact Marilyn. Thank you.

Mormon Message
Bishop Bybee mentioned that he was touched and enlightened as he watched the most recent "Mormon Message" on the Church's website. It is titled "My new Life". It made a strong impact on him and he felt impressed that the sisters in our ward should view this clip during this Mother's Day season. He would like each of us to view this message during the next couple of days. It takes about 8 minutes.
